Ohio Valley Region Hosts The Hidden Opponent and Performance Psychology at OVR Bid Tournament to Champion Student-Athlete Mental Health

Columbus, OH — [3/30/25] — The Ohio Valley Region (OVR) of USA Volleyball is proud to announce a significant collaboration with The Hidden Opponent and Performance Psychology during the upcoming OVR Bid Tournament at the Columbus Convention Center. This premier event, where top teams compete for bids to the USA Volleyball Nationals, will spotlight the critical importance of mental health among student-athletes.

On Saturday, April 5th, the tournament will host a Lime Green-Out for Mental Health Awareness, encouraging participants and attendees to wear lime green in support of this vital cause. Both The Hidden Opponent and Performance Psychology will have dedicated spaces within the convention center, offering resources, engaging activities, and expert insights to promote mental well-being among athletes.

The Hidden Opponent is a leading non-profit organization advocating for athlete mental health. Founded by former NCAA volleyball player Victoria Garrick Browne, the organization aims to break the stigma surrounding mental health in sports culture by providing advocacy, education, and support for student-athletes nationwide. Their initiatives have reached millions, fostering a global community that empowers athletes to prioritize their mental well-being.

Performance Psychology, the official sports psychologist of the OVR, specializes in enhancing athletic performance through mental skills training. Their expertise assists athletes in developing resilience, focus, and coping strategies, which are essential for both competitive success and overall mental health.

In addition to these organizations’ presence, several OVR member clubs have generously donated gift baskets, and there will be various giveaways and interactive activities at their tables. This collective effort underscores the region’s commitment to fostering a supportive environment where student-athletes can thrive both physically and mentally.

“The OVR Bid Tournament is one of our most competitive events, and we recognize the pressures that come with high-level competition,” said Commissioner Hofman at the OVR. “By partnering with The Hidden Opponent and Performance Psychology, we aim to provide our athletes with the tools and support they need to navigate these challenges and prioritize their mental health.”

The Ohio Valley Region invites all attendees to participate actively in the Lime Green-Out and engage with the resources provided. Together, we can break the stigma and champion the mental well-being of our student-athletes.
